Last Saturday at Elm City Handmade within Project Storefronts in New Haven, Andy from Black Unicorn Studios presented an extensive and detailed demonstration on screen printing.
Described by Andy as:
Covering all the basics from start to finish in typical DIY fashion. From methods of getting your image on a screen, choosing a screen ,coating , exposing methods, printing, and proper clean up. We will also cover ink types, printing on different surfaces, chemicals, equipment and how to make your own, and more.
And, Andy delivered in a fun and informative format. I learned everything I forgot or never knew about screen printing in one to three colors on fabric and paper.
Andy’s background? A triple play. He lived and worked in three of the Northeast’s top creative capitals: Manhattan, Brooklyn and Providence — before settling back in CT with his equally creative wife. He has also worked in several professional screen printing shops and has extensive experience in true DIY style on a shoe string budget to full-blown commercial production.
