Sam Johnson’s Paradise Lost + Found | Affordable Art Fair New York 2011

by kHyal on May 13, 2011

Post number 3 on the AAFNY11 features Sam Johnson — an artist represented by BadJupiter.

New York City

Sam grew up in the middle of America, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and spent much of his youth sketching with pen, pencil, and paper when he should have been paying attention in class. Raised in a world where “photo” meant “stop, look directly at the camera, and smile” his interest as an observer of people has always focused on the opposite of that: witnessing—and, later, capturing—life that’s real, unprepared, and even unaware.

Sam picked up his first real camera when he got his first real job shortly after college in Texas. Ever since, he’s been a passionate student of the art of photography, developing a personal style that’s part documentary, part street. Initially a hobby for free time and travel, photographing people and places has become a full-time obsession that’s helped him to see the world differently, better.

Sam’s blog is at samparadise.com and on twitter he is @samparadise
