I was recently giving a lecture to design students at a major university. Most were seniors ready to hit the market. I wanted to see if anyone was listening during my opening remarks — the market was prime for affordable design talent and starting salaries 30–40K range throughout Connecticut and New York.
Shortly after my presentation, I asked a simple two-part question. What have all of you heard about available work and salaries for junior designers just out of school?
No response, so I asked again — silence. Not a good sign since I delivered this information less than 30 minutes ago. If the class was practicing good listening skills, they would have heard me the first time.
