Our family tradition during the holidays is Christmas eve brunch at Good News Café in Woodbury, CT.
Truth — whenever we can come up with a reason we descend on one of the best restaurants in the country. My mom turned me on to Carole Peck in the late 80s when she had a restaurant in New Milford. In 1993, Carole and Bernard opened Carole Peck’s Good News Café.
Good News Café features an eclectic array of cuisine based in what I call Nuvelicious. The interior is fun and fresh with a retro meets funky-chic vibe. Feeding the soul visually — art exhibits monthly.
170 seat full service restaurant, catering, bi- annual culinary tours in the Provence region of Avignon France, books and award winning acclaim from the best of the best: Zagat’s Guide (“Top Restaurants in the U.S.”), The New York Times, Gourmet, Connecticut Magazine, Bon Appetit, House Beautiful, and Travel & Leisure. In 2000, the National Restaurant Association named Good News Cafe as the “Restaurant of the Year”; in 2003, readers of Connecticut Magazine chose Good News Cafe for “Best American” and “Best Desserts” in Connecticut.
Bernard, Carole’s husband and partner, styled the interior of the restaurant. What I first thought was a tabletop with a marbleized paint job, was actually Marmoleum® flooring used in a unique way. Marmoleum® is the original linoleum, eco-friendly and ahead of the curve. It wasn’t until 2008 that I finally used it for our home kitchen floor, office conference room floor, and the leading material for the natural covers of the DesignerJournals line.
Satisfy your palette.

Those pecan encrusted oysters are the best ever — and Bernard’s taste in decor is sublime. So glad to be part of this tradition!
