Flipping through the channels, I thought I found FACE / OFF, the Travolta/Cage movie from 1997. Great plot and worth renting. Rated 7.3 out off 10.
Instead, it was the new series on SyFy — Face/Off. Interesting concept — Project Runway meets Creature Features. Last episode — create a creepy character, movie poster, title and tagline. Adding design, branding and copywriting — impossible feat. This evening’s show — human/animal like “BrundleFly” in the 1986 remake of The Fly only with make up, no telepods. Pictured — 2011 Elephant Man and Beetle Babe.
Entering into the special effects world is not an easy career path. Your skill set — make up artist, materials expert, illusionist, inventor, fabricator, mechanic — combining human factors, user interface, realism, and perfectionism. All of the contestants were excellent, creating their creepy characters and believable movie-like themes to match.
