Outside the Neues Museum in Berlin Germany sits an exquisite sculpture of 3 figures and a bird. After a fair amount of hunting, I have not been able to identify the master carver who turned a single piece of marble into this story of a woman, a chained man and a fallen hero.
With the wonders of the search engines and many attempts with various key words that should fit — nothing comes up except all the sculptures inside this museum or relating to other museums throughout the world with monuments.
Can you identify this sculpture with a name and artist? Just like the game show Jeopardy, I’ll give this a value 500 points. That equals a free DesignerJournal of your choice.
Just leave the answer in the comment section.

That’s a sculpture of the Greek titan, Prometheus who stole fire from the Gods. For his crime, Zeus punished him by chaining him to a rock. The bird is the eagle that came each day to eat Prometheus’s liver.
The sculptor is Eduard Müller. The sculpture is called Prometheus und die Okeaniden (1868 – 1879).
It is not a strong translation of the Greek style. However, the sculpture is a mix of styles and considered interesting when viewing sculptures of that time period.
Thank you Mrs. Finch, my undergrad Art History teacher for four years.
