Black Rock Train Station | The Right Choice

by Karl on December 21, 2010

I have lived in Fairfield County most of my adult life. In 1990 — I moved to Fairfield overlooking Ash Creek — to be closer to the train station for trips into NYC and South Norwalk. In 2004 I moved to Black Rock —  just one mile away to be part of the growing creative community and anticipating the newly proposed “Black Rock Train Station.” The station is just across the street from BJs and the movie theaters — tucked behind Bigelow Tea headquarters. The location is ideal for the majority of Black Rock residents and walking distance from numerous streets here. Everyone knows this little seaside community of Bridgeport as a growth area — The New York Times has written several articles about it as the next mecca of affordable cool and beauty. (kHyal calls Bridgeport “Connecticut’s Brooklyn.”) Most if not all the other stops on the Metro-North New Haven and Harlem lines are named by city, town, village or street.

The current proposed name of the station is “The Fairfield Metro Center.” This is what happens when politics or a state gets involved — they can’t make the right choice because of conflicts with who built what, property lines and who is claiming ownership. I overheard a conversation recently that the name was going to be Fairfield 2, like a movie sequel.

We are in favor of “Black Rock Station.” There is a small window of opportunity for residents and anyone interested to voice their opinions for this change. Please take a moment to cast your vote here!

It makes sense & is way cooler. “Fairfield Metro” is bound to cause confusion of all sorts the way “Brewster East” used to.
