An afternoon at the MoMA

by Karl on January 2, 2010

During our annual post holiday visit to New York City, we feast on food and art for the soul at The Museum of Modern Art. Kicking things off — a delicious lunch at Modern. The MoMA café with an impressive tapas menu — hip, ultra-crisp setting.

This year we ventured on to drink in all the recent exhibits: Monet’s Water Lilies, Erotic Objects, Irving Penn, The New Typography and Tim Burton. The Tim Burton show needs a revisit. An outstanding body of work, from his childhood drawings to recent projects. I was most impressed with the detail of his sketches and journal entries throughout his career.

In addition to the featured exhibits, I especially enjoyed the permanent retrospective product design collection from the turn of the century to modern day. A blast from the past to see an inflatable orange chair from the 70s. I actually owned the same piece — wished I save it for my collection. On a very busy Saturday and holiday weekend, still taking in this art and design — energizes and keeps creativity ever present.
